HI THERE!
I'm Maddy Bruno, a dedicated photographer with nearly 15 years of experience shooting on film. I specialize in scenic views, styled events, and portraiture. While my day job is as a geologist, my career has been diverse, including roles in community development, EMS, agriculture, and product photography. I grew up in Colorado but have been in Maine for 11 years.
As I inch towards 30 I find I am often celebrating weddings, births, and milestones, and generally feeling like life is happening fast. Film photography helps me slow down and center myself, and I believe it can do the same for others.
I am happy to take on your engagement, elopement, wedding, senior/family portraits and styled events. For larger events such as weddings, I prefer to work as a subcontractor of, or in tandem with, a digital photographer, but I am open to discussing your vision. If you are a digital photographer looking for someone to tag along to provide those artistic film shots, lets chat! Reach out to me via this form or by emailing maineslowphoto@gmail.com.
My Artistic and Working Style
My photographic style is nostalgic, light-driven, and rooted in strong technical skills and artistic vision. I aim to capture moments as they are, which means I am a big believer in shooting it right the first time, which means minimal post-production edits. I’m committed to preserving memories in their most authentic form- flyaways and all.
My ideal clients are open-minded and seek something different, valuing the day itself over the photographs. I believe in capturing moments authentically and aim to stay in the background when possible. I work closely with couples to understand their story and ensure a positive experience, especially for those uncomfortable in front of the camera (like me)! And yes, I want to include your dog- I have a 13-yr old heeler mix and a 5-year old catahoula mix who is deaf and a tripod.
Process and Delivery
I have several professional level film cameras and lenses (a Nikon FM2, NikonN90, Pentax K1000), as well as a standard Canon DLSR (digital) for backup. I develop all my film locally with Northeast Photographic and will deliver the film in digital format along with recommendations for printing. Unlike digital photographers, I typically deliver 60-150 photos per event (or, 2-5 rolls of film), dependent on whether I am working alone or with a digital photographer, focusing on quality over quantity. My price reflects the lower volume.
I am based in Augusta, ME but am happy to travel throughout New England. I lived and worked on Islesboro and spend a lot of time out there still, so folks with island weddings- you don't need to worry about explaining a ferry to me.
As a note: teachers, first responders, and military are eligible for a 10% reduction in my hourly rate- thanks for doing what you do!
